Asset List

1.Headphones: The headphones are used within the kidnapping scene and are worn by Amelia whilst she is walking towards her school before she gets kidnap. The headphones will be used to make Amelia unaware of the disruption and danger that is surrounding her. Therefore the use of the headphones also reinforces Amelia vulnerability and heightens the anticipation and drama within my thriller opening.

2. The rucksack is used throughout th entire opening, however more so in Amelia's introductory scene. I feel that the rucksack and the use of feminine patterns/colouring reinforces Amelia's innocence therefore making her the perfect victim due to her exaggerated youth and vulnerability. The rucksack presents a sense of security and childhood.

3. Amelia's phone acts out as a juxtaposition to her strongly performed youth and innocence as the phone represents a essence of growing up. Moreover, Amelia is constantly on her phone throughout the entire opening, therefore this performs a sense privacy and secrecy, conforming to the conventions of a thriller opening through this modern gadget.

4. The paper lunch bag is a important prop used throughout the opening scene. This is the prop that allows for John to call after Amelia to which he then gets wounded. The lunch bag provides a theme of providence and stereotypical parent attitude that I feel reinforces both Amelia's incapability and John's protective nature.

5. After my research, I found that it was clearly essential to include some type of weapon within my opening scene. Therefore I chose the simple option of the knife, as unlike a gun, it is a quiet and secretive method of killing which I feel heightens my theme of suspense and mystery. Also, my scene takes place on a Monday morning and the use of a loud weapon would not be realistic to use within the narrative of my opening scene.

6. The prop of the white van will be used within the kidnapping scene at Amelia's school. I have chosen to involve the vehicle of the white van as the kidnappers transport as this represents a clear difference to John's modern and attractive family car. The white van represents pure and simple business. I feel that therefore the size of the van expresses large mystery.

7. I have chosen for John to drive a family looking car to reinforce his stereotype of a protective farther figure and this reinforces his basic family life.

8. My favourite chosen prop is the scary mask for the kidnappers to wear. Ultimately, these mask portrays mystery and community within the crime as both kidnappers are absent of any individuality. Also, I thought it would add to the question of "Who are these killers?" "Why are they doing this?" more so by involving the masks. Therefore, I feel that the conventions of mystery, secrecy, suspense and crime has been reinforced through this prop in particular.
